Balconies made of white cement characterize new appearance

Conversion of a high-rise building in Eindhoven

According to the plans of the Diederendirrix architectural office, the former TD Gebouw administration tower in Eindhoven was converted into a residential building with 157 units and 15,000 m² of living space. Now generous, circumferential balconies made of white cement characterise the building's former grey façades.

Based on Dyckerhoff WEISS Strong N and with an addition of limestone powder, Granito Betonproducten from Ittervoort produced 275 balcony elements. The total of 1,100 m³ of concrete was self-compacting, in some cases special structural matrices were used. Using the patented BALQOON® system, the balconies could be retrofitted to the existing structure of the building. With a depth of two metres, the balconies are very generous and give the high-rise building a light and elegant appearance.

The TD building is centrally located yet quietly situated in the Anne Frankplantsoen park. The construction company Stam + De Koning from Eindhoven was commissioned with the conversion, the client is Foolen & Reijs Immobilien. The building was completed in September 2018.
